Repeat Explanation/Today’s Post

Why shoes?

I was asked why I selected the picture of tennis shoes for my blog. It is quite simple actually. It’s a reminder to me that I need to take a moment, (or two, or three), and bow my head (and my heart) in awe, respect and thanksgiving to God. If you have a prayer request, let me know about it. I’ll share it with the Circle of Friends prayer support team. Contact me via email: lisa@friendsradio.org or call 1-888-893-3585.

Now for today’s post

If you have a moment, please visit www.newpointe.org and listen to Dwight Mason’s sermon titled “Usual Suspects”.  It’s well worth the time.  It’s something all of us need to hear. Thanks Dwight!

But I don’t have time……….

Is that really a true statement? If I really want to do something, guess what? I “make” time for it. Isn’t that the silliest phrase? How self-deceptive… - “i make time”; - time to blog - time to shower - time to eat - time for family - time for sex (hope that doesn’t offend - just being real) - I make time to do whatever. Why don’t we just admit it? We don’t really make time - we spend time. We spend time on what we worship. So think about the last 24 hours. How did you SPEND your time? Who or what did you worship? How will you spend the next 24 hours, assumingly (is that the proper word?), afforded to you?

I thought about this today as I remembered my Aunt Alice on what would have been her 67th birthday. My sister LeeAnne and I chatted about Aunt Alice for quite a while and were reminded how thankful we are for the time we “spent” with her. We both wish we would have spent more. (we would have laughed more - cried more too - laughed more……Oh, I already mentioned that didn’t I? - If you knew Aunt Alice, you’d understand!! - Tra la la) Smile

Choices, choices. Time is a gift of great value. Spend it wisely. God will reward your stewardship.

Daddy

What does that word mean to you?  For some it’s a source of joy, security, unconditional love.  For others, well, none of the aforementioned words.

Whether you embrace the beauty of the word “Daddy”, or a well of painful emotions come flooding your soul - there is a perfect Daddy.  He is God, Our Heavenly Dad.

I know that some folks get a tad uncomfortable when I refer to God as Dad.  There are times He is Father, a term of respect and deep awe.  But He’s my Dad too.  The One whom I go to when the world is unfair.  When I have skinned up knees because I did something stupid.  The One who saves every tear I’ve cried.  That’s a Daddy, don’t you think?

When our daughter Jillian was three years old, Bob and I loaded up the car and decided the Troyer troup would visit the East Coast.  As we entered the southern boarder of Maine, driving along the coastline, Jillian needed to stretch her little legs.  There was a playground overlooking a rocky beach. Absolutely breathtaking!  The ocean waves were crashing on the rocks, the gulls were making their signature sound, the salty sea air filled my lungs.  However, when I recall the beauty of the landscape there was one vision that was more breathtaking than the waves, the rocks, the beach……….it was that of my husband Bob loving our little girl, her heart soaring as she enjoyed being the apple of her daddy’s eye.  Laughing, smiling her splendid smile, swinging back and forth on that beautiful September day.  When I need a visual in my mind of what a Daddy is, and how God feels about me.  That was a  gift God gave me that day.

He adores me.  He adores you, too.  Enjoy Him - for time and for eternity, in Jesus name.

And the sun rises each day……

Greetings Earthlings…..I’m kind of new to planet Blog. How am I doing?

I’ve been doing hours of thinking the past two months. Not that I’ve totally neglected the exercise in my 42 years of drawing breath, but it’s been different since February 17, 2007.

It was that evening that a couple of very significant people in my life left this planet and started spending their eternity with Jesus. Happy for them? You bet…..happy for me and the rest of us left here? Not really.

I’ve done a lot of crying, but I’ve done a lot of laughing, too. See, the folks that have gone on to enjoy the fullness of their personal relationship with Jesus were fun people. Not shallow, not “duh” - but fun. They enjoyed their life. Their families. Their blessings. Did they always get it right? No way, and they’d be the first to admit. No pretense. That’s the way to live.

That’s the way I want to live. There have been times where I’ve second guessed my openness. My willingness to “bleed in front of the sharks”. I guess if I want to live a boring, safe life - self-protection is the way to go. That sounds pretty dull to me.

The best times in my life have been when God has focused His spotlight of conviction on the likes of me. It helps me see the truth that He sees. It helps me recognize how much I need Him. It also makes me more compassionate to those who have also been under the spotlight and want to start “getting it right”.

Another thing that I’ve thought about recently is that even in the midst of grief, confusion, frustration, joy, peace, whatever - God is there. The sun rises each day, and then sets that evening. And for as long as He wills, that will continue.

In a world of constant change, whether for better or worse, God remains the same.

He’s my Heavenly Dad. Wow! I can’t wait to be where He is. However, as long as He says, “honey, stay put” - I want to make each day count. To love my God, my husband, my children, my family and friends. To love them well. To be real with the number of days that I am afforded. I want to be ready for the sunrise. How ’bout you?

Hope you’re enjoying your day. Mine was great…..but perhaps not great in the eyes of the world.

It was great because three people I know took a step away from bondage and toward God and freedom. They heard a stellar message by my pastor, Dwight Mason (www.dwightmason.com) from NewPointe Community Church (newpointe.org), about forgiveness. The text that was used was Matthew 18: 21-35. You can listen to the sermon via the church’s site.

Lots of tears were shed. Even by me. They were tears of thanksgiving because I witnessed the power of God’s Spirit doing a supernatural work in the hearts of His beloved children.

There’s a song I’ve record titled “Have Your Way”. A friend of mine who’s one of the worship pastors at the Vineyard in Cincy wrote the song 15 years ago. His name is Charlie Hines. What a gifted fellow. When I was looking for a song to sing when sharing my testimony at women’s ministry events, this one fits the bill. You can hear the edited version at www.myspace.com/lisatroyer. Another friend of mine from the UK, producer John Perry, helped me put this version together. (www.johnperry.co.uk) - thanks John, you are a blessing.

If you’ve been trying to find some relief from soul wounds, receive forgiveness from God and then forgive those who have hurt you. Ask God to have His way in your life. He sent His son Jesus so that we would have the opportunity. Don’t waste your chance to live, and live well.

Sorry if this is kind of scattered. There’s a bunch of stuff in my heart tonight - pray for my friends that took a big step today.

A blog by Vineyard Pastor Dave Workman from Cincy

Sometimes you can’t say it better…..so don’t.  Know the Truth and be set free.  As you read, ask God to speak to your heart.

Have a great weekend.

hellboy

I wish I could have spent some time talking about life after judgment. Particularly hell.

Except I think the problem with many of us pastors talking about hell is that our hearts aren’t sufficiently broken for those who don’t yet know Jesus. Our warnings sound hollow at best. But here’s my best shot.

Isn’t there incongruity with a God of love and a place of final punishment called hell?

If we think of Jesus as being the ultimate expression of God’s sacrificial love, then His words should carry a special weight because no one else taught more about hell. Jesus pushes us to see life from an eternal perspective. In Luke 12, He tells His followers not to be scared of hyper-religious terrorists who could persecute and murder them: “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.”

But if God can throw someone into hell, how can He possibly love?

Let me give you another picture of hell: it is the one place where the self-centered are protected from the dangers of love, as C. S. Lewis put it. Jesus actually said that hell was created for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). The word most commonly translated in the New Testament as hell is Gehenna. Gehenna is derived from a literal place called the “valley of Hinnom” found in the Old Testament—a place where pagan Jews would commit human sacrifice by throwing their children in an ever-burning city garbage dump. When Jesus referred to Gehenna, he borrowed literal images of worms and flames and burning refuse. Every Jew could understand that description because of the awful reality of the human garbage dump. It was a frightening illustration for hell.

But if we can’t conceive of a God who would send someone to such a place, what does it say about that same God who would give His own son over to a tortuous death to rescue us from that end?

The story is this: our condition is so heinous, so unapproachable, so hideous, that only the drastic measure of a perfect sacrifice could destroy the disease of sin in us. The entire race is infected with an AIDS-like virus that destroys the soul…and only one antidote exists. Sin so miniaturizes the human condition that the first step into God’s presence is as high as Everest…we cannot step up; we are unable. That puts hell in another light for me: God, who will separate the infected from the healthy, comes to us with a vaccine drawn from His own veins. The looming of hell makes the God of Love even greater to me. Hell is the only refuge from holy, perfect love.

But does it last forever…and with no hope?

We are creatures locked in time and space; eternity & infinity are impossible concepts to grasp—our understanding of time is stringing minute after minute together in a linear fashion. Eventually, even Death and Hell—as personified in the book of Revelation—are thrown into a lake of fire. And who knows what that completely entails?

So do I believe in a literal hell?

What makes the difference? A dream is just as frightening if you never wake up. If the images used by the New Testament writers were metaphorical, is that preferable to the awful reality they are trying to convey? I would say hell is hell; and if the Captain of the ship says get in My Son’s lifeboat, I would trust His judgment.

Simply put: our pictures of hell are made dangerously real by the integrity of the Messenger.

and the beat goes on

Hey Folks…..hope this finds you well. Me? - I’m good. Took the week off and spent it “spring breakin” with Bob, Jillian and Christian. Some mellow, family fun. Came home and checked the messages/prayer requests left by folks who choose to spend part of their evening with me on WCRF. Yes, I was pre-recorded a few days ahead this week. I figure the Holy Spirit knows what folks need to hear and when. Amazing how He works those things out. (Amazing God, indeed)

At any rate, whether it’s an email from a missionary in India that listens (isn’t technology a hoot!!??) or someone just around the block - there’s a world full of hurting people. Lots of the folks are searching for God. Many have found Him, received the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, but are trying to get a grasp on how to live life well.

Now, don’t get me wrong……I love books. Just ask my hubby. Way too many books!! BUT - when it all comes down to what folks really need, I’ve got to share the Word with them. There’s some great modern translations that are “easier” to understand - The Message, New Living Translation, etc - but the fact remains, it’s God’s Word that speaks.

I’ve been reading lots of blogs that talk about “I’m reading this book, that book” - nothing wrong with that, but when I read folks saying “so and so said this” or “pastor/teacher said thus and so” I have to wonder, are they reading God’s personal love letter to them or just going on secondhand info? Know what I mean?

I’ve got some awesome friends that are very gifted communicators and authors - Lisa Harper, Sharon Jaynes, Carol Kent - but the thing about each of these splendid ladies is that even though they write books (and great ones at that) they say “you gotta read God’s Word”.

So why did I call this entry “and the beat goes on”? Well, we folks are nothing but a vapor. Here today, gone tomorrow. But the Word of God will last forever. His “unforced rhythms of grace” go on in perfect time from generation to generation.

Enjoy Psalm 119………it’s been speaking big time to me this week. Cool
