and the beat goes on
Hey Folks…..hope this finds you well. Me? - I’m good. Took the week off and spent it “spring breakin” with Bob, Jillian and Christian. Some mellow, family fun. Came home and checked the messages/prayer requests left by folks who choose to spend part of their evening with me on WCRF. Yes, I was pre-recorded a few days ahead this week. I figure the Holy Spirit knows what folks need to hear and when. Amazing how He works those things out. (Amazing God, indeed)
At any rate, whether it’s an email from a missionary in India that listens (isn’t technology a hoot!!??) or someone just around the block - there’s a world full of hurting people. Lots of the folks are searching for God. Many have found Him, received the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, but are trying to get a grasp on how to live life well.
Now, don’t get me wrong……I love books. Just ask my hubby. Way too many books!! BUT - when it all comes down to what folks really need, I’ve got to share the Word with them. There’s some great modern translations that are “easier” to understand - The Message, New Living Translation, etc - but the fact remains, it’s God’s Word that speaks.
I’ve been reading lots of blogs that talk about “I’m reading this book, that book” - nothing wrong with that, but when I read folks saying “so and so said this” or “pastor/teacher said thus and so” I have to wonder, are they reading God’s personal love letter to them or just going on secondhand info? Know what I mean?
I’ve got some awesome friends that are very gifted communicators and authors - Lisa Harper, Sharon Jaynes, Carol Kent - but the thing about each of these splendid ladies is that even though they write books (and great ones at that) they say “you gotta read God’s Word”.
So why did I call this entry “and the beat goes on”? Well, we folks are nothing but a vapor. Here today, gone tomorrow. But the Word of God will last forever. His “unforced rhythms of grace” go on in perfect time from generation to generation.
Enjoy Psalm 119………it’s been speaking big time to me this week.
WOW LISA,
